Falher - Profile

One of the earliest agricultural communities in the Peace Country, Falher was named after a French missionary.

The colony of Saint Jean Baptiste, Falher was established in 1912. After many new settlers arrived in the following years, the colony divided into what is now known as the Villages of Donnelly and Falher, with Falher moving just west of Donnelly.

Falher received village status in 1929. During its growth, the village experienced many fires, but persisted and developed into a town in 1955.

Falher has become known as "The Honey Capital of Canada", with over 250,000 beehives in the area producing 2 million kgs. of honey annually. To further develop the Honey theme, the town has erected the World's largest Bee which is over 22 feet long.

As an agricultural service centre of major importance, Falher is finding international markets for products of its agricultural processing industry. Its two alfalfa plants produces well over 120,000 tons of alfalfa pellets annually.
